Hamburg the maritime city

18:01

Explore the far corners of the globe and return via Hamburg – travel itineraries don't get much better than that. Gateway to the world, beautiful seafaring hub, maritime capital of the north – even the normally reserved locals find it hard to conceal their pride in their home city, its ambience and its cosmopolitan charm.
Would you take a tour of the port, a stroll through the old town and discover the HafenCity, downtown Hamburg again? Or vice versa? There are many ways to dive into the fascinating atmosphere of this commercial and Hanseatic city; both modern and rich in traditions. But one thing is certain: the harbor tour is a must. From the piers, boat slips between huge container ships, the majestic cruises and elegant yachts through one of the largest ports in Europe for an experience to be classified as of "Unforgettable." A relaxed walk through the old town will complete this marvelous excursion. Where nobles merchants once maintained a flourishing trade in coffee, tea and spices, restaurants and bistros in high colors invite today to linger in the middle of countertops and residential houses dating from the XVIIth to the XIXth century. The historical Speicherstadt is another specificity of Hamburg. This set of warehouses built in a classic brick architecture, based on thousands of stilts in oak and crisscrossed by small canals, is the largest coherent complex of its kind in the world. The HafenCity, subject of one of the largest construction projects in the city center of Europe, on the other hand allows discovering Hamburg of today and tomorrow.
