The town of Hvar is a popular tourist
destination and a unique mix of Mediterranean nature, rich historical heritage,
and luxury. It is located on the picturesque Adriatic Sea, about an hour boat
ride from Split. It is an inexhaustible treasury of scenery, atmosphere,
adventure, beautiful beaches, and sunshine.
Hvar was occupied by the Greeks in the 4th
century, but it was the Venetians in the 15th and 16th centuries who radically
changed the architecture. The island gained glory and power during the Middle
Ages as it was an important port within the Venetian naval empire. Today it is
the center of tourism and one of the favorite destinations on the Adriatic.
Consistently ranked among the world's most
beautiful islands, the island of 11,000 inhabitants has a rolling through the
hills that reach up to 628 meters above sea level landscape, soils are fertile
because although very little rain falls there, the people were able to build
systems of water retention in the soil, in order to cultivate serenely and stay
as independent as possible.
